The third edition of Bologna Design Week, the international event organized in the historic center on the occasion of Cersaie, the ceramics and bathroom furnishings exhibition at BolognaFiere, has just ended. Among the most significant initiatives, the exhibition on the Bolognese entrepreneur Dino Gavina.

With over 150 participants and 150 events, the BDW involved the excellence of design in a vast program of exhibitions, workshops, design talks scattered throughout historic buildings, museums, art galleries and in the five main locations of the previous editions.

THE EXHIBITIONS Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse Replica

In the setting of Palazzo Isolani, the headquarters of the design week, the exhibition ‘The original is Vitra’ and the ‘Temporary Living Space’ by Sara Simoska designed by Molteni&Dada were set up. In addition to other companies and designers, the itinerary was completed by the installation of Space Interiors and the model of the expansion of the Golinelli Foundation headquarters, designed by Mario Cucinella Architects. The spaces of the former Ospedale dei Bastardini were occupied by installations by well-known brands and designers – including “Ceramic Light” by Massimo Iosa Ghini for the Ceramiche Ricchetti Group, “Cathedrals of Light” by Paolo Castelli S.p.A., “Non Ordinary Object. The hidden side of design” by Geberit and Pozzi-Ginori, “Percorsi” by Ornamenta Gamma Due, “Analyzing Optimism. All the shapes of well-being” by Tosilab, the seats by Castelli 2014 S.r.l., as well as by about twenty Italian and foreign designers. “Bologna Design Week is a good initiative, an effort that I like,” comments architect Massimo Iosa Ghini. “In this third edition I have seen a good percentage of things well done, some still not well cared for. I saw the desire to connect the side events to the Fair and I hope one day to feel this bond even more. But above all there has been a greater participation of citizens, and therefore greater attention to the theme of design”.

THE EXHIBITION ABOUT DINO GAVINA

‘Free Shot. Dino Gavina 10’ at Palazzo Pepoli Campogrande was the most popular exhibition. Curated by Elena Brigi and Daniele Vincenzi, the exhibition was a tribute to the design entrepreneur, and follows the 2010 exhibition hosted by MAMbo which they curated. In the branch of the Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna, a journey through ten thematic points, ten pieces, ten authors, with ten different stories was welcomed by the fascinating halls of the building to celebrate the tenth anniversary of his death. As the curator Daniele Vincenzi says, “this exhibition was a surprise for us too. We decided to show both assembled and disassembled pieces, which is normal for those who are in the field or used to frequenting factories and tapestry shops. For the public, however, it was a new experience, a surprise. It helps the visitor to understand the meaning of industrial seriality, to appreciate the object. In this set-up, the lighting choices were fundamental. When we set up the lights, it was a revelation: in that moment, the sense of the exhibition was understood”.
